good things to come

Love this talk by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, "An High Priest of Good Things to Come." A good friend just shared it with me in light of some of our recent conversations. Thought I would share, it is worth a read.

Three quotes I loved from it:

1. Even if you cannot always see that silver lining on your clouds, God can, for He is the very source of the light you seek. He does love you, and He knows your fears. He hears your prayers. He is your Heavenly Father, and surely He matches with His own the tears His children shed.

2. Only one who has taken the full brunt of such adversity could ever be justified in telling us in such times to “be of good cheer.” 9 Such counsel is not a jaunty pep talk about the power of positive thinking, though positive thinking is much needed in the world. No, Christ knows better than all others that the trials of life can be very deep and we are not shallow people if we struggle with them. But even as the Lord avoids sugary rhetoric, He rebukes faithlessness and He deplores pessimism. He expects us to believe!

3. Some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don’t come until heaven; but for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come.

It's interesting knowing how sorry some people feel for us right now. People feel more sorry for us than we feel for ourselves. I honestly believe everything that happens presents wonderful opportunities that we probably wouldn't have otherwise had. I don't mind being here in CA with just a meager 10 hour a week job. I don't feel like I'm waiting for my blessings to come. My life is filled with blessings. 4 very obvious and wonderful blessings... Axie, Sylvie, Dylan, and my sweet, hard-working, never giving up husband.

I know that Heavenly Father is making us into the people we need to be in this life. I know we were really starting to rely on our own merits, and that's not who he wants us to be. I know everyone has their own trials and plenty of people make tons of money without relying at all on God. But, for us, I feel peace in knowing Heavenly Father loves me enough to remind me to look to him in all things. He knows I can be better.

I gave the RS lesson on Sunday and it was about how there is no failure when you rely on the Lord. We don't look at not passing the bar as a failure. It was just a fork in the road and we ended up having to take a different path than the one we thought we would take.

I feel so blessed with my family and our nice air-conditioned home (rental, of course) with plenty of food on the table and an abundance of love and support. I love my life.

Yes, I am ready for the blessing of a job. But, I'm also grateful for the blessing of trials forcing me to become more who I am meant to be.

Camille's Memorial Service

Grandma Camille was buried in Utah next to her husband. My sister, Maren, was in town visiting, so Bryce went with his parents and took along Dylan to get together with family and memorialize Grandma.

He should write this post, but since I am writing it... these are the only pictures he sent me of the trip.

They drove out. They got into Salt Lake pretty late... so Dylan had been trying to sleep in the car. He woke up a lot crying for mommy. So sad.

Dylan loved being with his cousins... he was meeting plenty of them for the first time.

They went bowling. He loved it.

He loved hanging out in the hotel and eating breakfast in bed.

He fell and got an owie. Poor baby. He picked out the princess bandaid... (princesses or plain... obvious choice.)

He got a new Superman hat (which he loves) and bragged about eating Cafe Rio. Yum.

His awesome cousins (Bryce's cousins who are closer to Dylan's age) showed up with a cool Jake and the Neverland Pirate ship and figures and canon for Dylan. How thoughtful! He loves it. Luckily, most the pieces are not dangerous for babies so we get to play with it plenty.

I sure missed my baby boy... and my big boy too. haha. That's what my mom says about Ray. lol.

We decided to not have late night calls with him because the first two nights he would just end up in hysterics wanting to go home and see mommy. After long days, no naps, tons of fun, obviously he was tired... but, I sure felt sad not being able to cuddle him and help him fall asleep.

Great Grandma Camille

Sweet Grandma Camille (Bryce's mom's mom) passed away in May.

She had alzheimer's, so I'm sure she is enjoying having her brilliant mind back, as well as her husband.

She will be missed. What a sweet lady who loved her grand and great-grand children so much.

Aerial Silks

Maren brought her silks out to show us her cool moves and so we could get some neat shots.

We all had fun playing around. Holy cow, it take serious muscle... which I don't have.

The kids loved swinging in it.

Dylan is currently laying in my lap singing, "My mommy is cuuuuuute!" I LOVE HIM!!! "Mommy, do you like my song? Do you like my 'mommy is cute' song?" I LOOOOVE IT!

Maren Visits Us

It was so much fun to have Maren visit us!!

After our LA trip, we came home to my beautiful children.

Maren is the best auntie and spent hours just holding, playing with, and feeding these kiddos.

We went to the park, she ran around with a cape on, cuddled the babies, let them spit food all over her, she took me out to eat at La Mina Cantina. So delicious... only got a pic of the girls in their high chairs there. It was amazing, the girls sat happily through the whole dinner! That was their first visit to a restaurant. We don't get out much with twin babies. They enjoyed their first taste of rice.

We loved having Aunt Maren visit and can't wait for her to come visit again!!

LA with Siblings

I don't even know how we got this trip planned. It was middle of May.

First, I was homesick and begged Maren to come visit me. I deserved a vacation... so, we were going to hit LA for a bit after she came to visit the kiddies. Well, then we thought if we're doing a vacation we should invite our other siblings. Somehow, it all worked out and we all came to LA together for a wonderful 4-5 day vacation!!

Friday: Pick everyone up at 6PM at LAX, go to dinner at PF Changs with Uncle Bob
Saturday: Knottsberry Farm with Line Skipping Passes - worth it.
Sunday: Escondido Falls, Hollywood, icecream with Uncle Bob
Monday: Trapeze at Santa Monica Pier, beach time, comedy club with Bob
Tuesday: Magic Mountain (EMPTY in May, so awesome!), dinner at Cheesecake with Bob and his ex-gf. :)

Seriously, Magic Mountain was empty during the week in May. So empty. The longest we waited was 15 minutes and that felt like forever. I was done with rides by 4PM because I started to get sick... which has never happened! I love roller coasters. I must be getting old. Ugh.

Crawlers

Watching these two little girls find their way to the house is so cute. This morning I had to laugh as I heard Sylvie start fussing… Only to find Axie was crawling over her obstacle.
